2 vans added to Call-A-Ride fleet
The Office of the Council on Developmental Disabilities and CNMI Public School System gathered at an open field adjacent to the PSS Office on Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, for the presentation of two new accessible vans. The two accessible vans will be assigned to CDD as part of overseeing the Call-A-Ride Program. The vans were purchased under a federal grant through the Federal Transportation Administration.
Among those at the Friday event were the CNMI Independent for living group, council members and staff of the Council on Developmental Disabilities, PSS Board of Education members, PSS staff, and Call-A-Ride drivers.
CDD executive director Pam Sablan expressed her sincere gratitude to PSS, and especially to Education Commissioner Rita Sablan and her staff-Tim Thornburgh, George Palican, Pete Leau, Robert Florian, Rita Dela Cruz-and members of the Board of Education for their efforts in providing the CNMI Council on Developmental Disabilities with two new accessible vans to add to the Call-A-Ride Transportation Program Vehicle Fleet.
Sablan said that Friday's event “reinforces our commitment and continued effort in working together to provide accessible transportation for individuals with disabilities to be independent citizens able to contribute and participate in all facets of community life in the CNMI.
The event was coordinated by PSS federal program coordinator Jack V. Diaz. (PR)
